Bluejay Wrestling

Bluejay Wrestling places 2nd

In a 16-team tournament, the Bluejay wrestling team placed 2nd at the Battle Creek invitational on Saturday, January 12.

Individually, Ryder Fuchs and Brock Bolling placed 1st; Jeremiah Kruntorad placed 2nd; Brett Tinker, Dylan Kuehler, Carter Jensen, and Michael Kruntorad placed 3rd; Isaiah Adams and Ashton Schweitzer placed 4th; Devin Graae and Nick Erickson placed 5th; Ethan Dohmen and Ren Gleason placed 7th; Cole Cheney and Dustin Jensen placed 10th; Nelson Emerson and Travis Jensen placed 12th; Mason Sedlacek placed 13th; Tim Windheuser, Jaden Jones and Aiden Gnat placed 16th.

At 106, Brock Bolling defeated Tristan Korth from Battle Creek, Hunter Kreikemeier from Battle Creek, and Zack Hartl of Stanton. Bolling also won by decision over Trenton Arlt from Oakland-Craig and Hunter Bennett of Elkhorn Valley.

At 113, Devin Graae lost to Boston Reeves of Battle Creek, Alexander Smith from Oakland-Craig, and Jaxon Smutz from Scribner-Snyder. Graae lost by decision to Isaiah Adams of Pierce. Also at 113, Adams lost by decision to Jaxon Smutz from Scribner-Snyder. Adams won by decision over Devin Graae of Perce. Adams then lost by fall to Alexander Smith from Oakland-Craig and Boston Reeves of Battle Creek.

At 120, Ethan Dohmen won by tech fall over Garrett James from Ponca. Dohmen then received a bye, then lost to Gavin Enstrom of Oakland-Craig. Dohmen won by fall over Shane Farnik of Creighton.

At 126, Carter Jensen won to Branden Meyer from Laurel-Concord/Coleridge, Korbyn Battershaw of Battle Creek, Shane Farnik of Creighton, and Reed Bennett from Elkhorn Valley. Jensen lost by fall to Gavin Enstrom from Oakland-Craig.

At 132, Kruntorad received a bye, then won to Hunter Bowers of Lutheran High Northeast, Lucas Hilliard from Oakland-Craig, and Cody Hanvey from Creighton. Kruntorad lost by fall to Owen Lade of Battle Creek. Also at 132, Mason Sedlacek defeated Hunter Klinetobe from Elkhorn Valley and lost to Owen Lade of Battle Creek and Demilliano Okereke from Oakland-Craig.

At 138, Michael Kruntorad won over Kaden Warneke from Battle Creek and Wyatt Verzani of Wakefield. He lost to Jefferson McNeill from Oakland-Craig.

At 145, Ashton Schweitzer defeated Cole Steffenson from Hartington CC, Kaleb Kummer Battle Creek, and Wyatt Uhing of Oakland-Craig. Schweitzer then lost to Prestin Vondra from Elkhorn Valley and Alex Schmit of Randolph. Also at 145, Jaden Jones was defeated by Prestin Vondra from Elkhorn Valley, Juan Lopez from Wakefield, and Tylor Kment from Stanton.

At 152, Nelson Emerson won by fall over Michael Glynn from Elkhorn Valley and lost to Jarron Matzler of Oakland-Craig and Isaac Verzani from Wakefield. Also at 152, Aiden Gnat was defeated by Ty Heimes from Battle Creek, Morgan Koch from Hartington CC, and Traven Croghan of Battle Creek.

At 160, Brett Tinker won by fall over Hunter Hegge from Crofton-Bloomfield, Cade Geoger from Stanton, and Wyatt Hegemann. Tinker was then defeated by Issiah Borgmann of Stanton. Tinker won by medical forfeit over Ethan Koch from Hartington CC. Also at 160, Tim Windheuser was defeated by Ethan Koch from Hartington CC, Brenden Waldow from Creighton, and Buddy Walz of Battle Creek.

At 170, Ren Gleason won over Lenny Schumer from Lauren-Concord/Coleridge and Gavin Chohon of Niobrara/Verdigre. Gleason was defeated by Seth Kment from Stanton and Kase Thompson from Battle Creek. Also at 170, Travis Jensen lost to Bryce Zimmerer of Creighton and Gavin Chohon of Niobrara/Verdigre.

At 182, Cole Cheney was defeated by Andrew Daly of Ponca and Eric Hoesing from Hartington CC. Also at 182, Dustin Jensen lost to Brock Schaecher of Elkhorn Valley and Sutton Pohlman from Stanton.

At 195, Dylan Kuehler defeated Gavyn Clause of Elkhorn Valley and Alexis Solorzano from Osmond twice. He was defeated by decision over Carter Jensen from Howells/Dodge.

At 220, Ryder Fuchs won by fall over Caden Reikofski from Elkhorn Valley, Jared Janssen from Crofton-Bloomfield, and Carter Throener of Howells/Dodge.

At 285, Nick Erickson was defeated by Brody Vrooman from Creighton, Justyn Hale from Oakland-Craig, Christan Yaw of Elkhorn Valley, and Ben McDuffee from Ponca.

“Overall we did a good job of finishing matches and competing hard,” said head coach Tyler Legate. “We are still making some technical mistakes that we need to fix, but overall I thought that the effort was good.”

The Bluejay wrestling team will next compete in a triangular at Pierce on Thursday, January 17, followed by tournaments at Madison and Neligh on January 18 and 19.  


Bluejay Wrestlers Narrowly Defeated by Pirates

The Pierce High wrestling team faced off with the Plainview Pirates on Thursday, January 10, at Plainview and were just barely defeated by the Pirates with a final score of 33-39.

Winning for the Bluejays, in the 126 weight class, Carter Jensen pinned Keagan Mosel. At 160, Brett Tinker pinned Alizae Mejia of Plainview. Winning by decision was Dylan Kuehler over Cameron Nelson at 285. Pierce also brought in 18 points due to Plainview being open at 170, 195, and 145.

Brock Bolling, at 106, lost by decision to Eli Lanham. Isaiah Adams, at 113, was pinned by Scout Ashburn. Ethan Dohmen was pinned by Jaden Sobotka at 120.  At 132, Jeremiah Kruntorad lost by decision Nate Christensen. Michael Kruntorad, at 138, was pinned by Matt Christensen.  Nelson Emerson lost to Will Gunning at 152 by decision. Ren Gleason was pinned by Lucas Hammer at 182. At 220, Cole Cheney was pinned by Collin Gale.  

Coach Tyler Legate said on the outcome of the dual, “I wish we could’ve won, but I thought that we wrestled hard. We just have to wrestle in better positions.”

The Bluejays had their next meet at the Battle Creek Invite at the home of the Braves on Saturday, January 12. Their next meet will be Thursday, January 17, at the home of the Bluejays in a triangular with Norfolk Catholic and Battle Creek.
