by Victoria Orona
Pierce High’s one-act cast and crew competed in the Mid-State Conference play production contest in Norfolk on Tuesday, November 13. They placed 1st with their performance of Medea.
This was the first year in which the Mid-State Conference held a competition rather than a festival for play production, making Pierce the first-ever conference champions.
Following their performance, the cast was given positive critiques from the judges and were given suggestions on how to improve.
Individually, there were four awards given, two were for best supporting actor and actress as well as overall best actor and actress. Caydan Retzlaff got best supporting actor, and Janae Arens got best supporting actress. Best overall actress went to Emilia Goetsch, and best actor went to Peter Halsey.
Coach Danielle Goetch said of the group’s victory, “It was validating. It made me feel like we were on the right track.” She also stated that that they will all continue to improve and work hard.
One-act’s next competition will be on Thursday, November 29, at Central Community College in Columbus for districts.
