Cross Country Begins Official Practice

by Angelica Volquardsen

The Pierce cross country team and coach Gary Shada started official practice on Monday, August 6, although their preparations for the season have been going on all summer.

The cross country runners have been working hard this summer to prepare themselves for the season by having team runs four times a week, lifting weights, and doing plyometric work. Their goal for the season is to be conference champs, district champs, place top three at state, and also have some of the girls qualify for state.

There are 12 team members, including nine boys and three girls. The boys are Isaac Lambrecht, Cole Vogt, Miles Garcia, Mason Sindelar, Colt Arnold, Brock Bolling, Carter Jensen, Dalton Haase, Christopher Efta. The girls are Bridget Raff, Callie Arnold, and Alexus Sindelar. Among the 12 members, there are six returning letter winners: Isaac Lambrecht, Cole Vogt, Miles Garcia, Mason Sindelar, Colt Arnold and Bridget Raff.

Coach Gary Shada said, “Our biggest strength this season is the number of returning letter winners we have. I expect us to go out and compete hard at our first meet.”

The cross country team’s first meet will be held on Friday, August 31, at Boone Central.
