Pierce High Holds Academic Celebration

Students and staff of Pierce Jr./Sr. High School celebrated the end of the school year with their annual academic awards presentation on Wednesday, May 16.

The assembly serves as a way to end the school year on a high note and honor the academic achievements of PHS students.

Those receiving recognition were students who participated in quiz bowl or academic contests throughout the school year, including all students who competed at the Northeast Scholastic Contest, where Pierce finished 3rd in the Mid-State Conference. Les Piper also presented awards to freshman science students for their paper airplane construction contest, and Mary Birch and Shelly Adams recognized this year’s peer tutors.

Math teachers Melinda Stelling and Grant Doerr recognized students who have taken five or more semesters of math in their high school years, and Deb Koehlmoos joined them to present awards to the top math and science students of the year. Koehlmoos also honored students who scored a 230+ on the science section of their Measure of Academic Progress test.

Activities director Darren Sindelar then recognized all students who received NSAA Academic All-State throughout the year, and Mrs. Treva Dostal honored her robotics students. LuAnn Prahl recognized those who served as office aides this year, as well as students who had perfect attendance. Crys Bauermeister then presented reading awards, and Melissa Legate presented journalism awards. Principal Mark Brahmer also recognized all students with a 3.5+ GPA, those who had earned principal’s honor roll, and those who had been students of the month in the spring semester.
