Bluejays Celebrate Masquerade-Themed Prom

by Annie Johnson

Despite wintery conditions, Pierce students were dressed to the nines as they gathered at The White House to get their groove on during prom on Friday, March 16.

When students arrived at The White House, they were greeted by Masquerade decorations, dinner, and entertainment. Before dinner was served, sophomore prom servers performed a short skit about a doctor’s office and the contagious patients suffering symptoms from uncontrollable itching to involuntarily slapping themselves in the face. For supper, Taylor’s catering allowed everyone to have the choice between roast beef and grilled shrimp that was served with cheesy potatoes and corn. As students munched on their meals, junior and senior class presidents, Kayla Simmons and Bennett Hoffmann, gave their thank-you speeches to everyone who was a part of bringing prom to life, especially the prom sponsors, Juan Lopez and Kathleen Brummels, the juniors for planning and decorating, the sophomores that served everyone, and the parents for fundraising and planning the post prom. Finally, after their food was settled, students flocked to the dance floor to have fun with friends while jamming out to Music Machine’s playlist for the night. While everything was going on, students had the ability to buy tickets to gain access to a load of props to use in a photo booth provided by Reflections.

Once the dance came to a close, everyone changed out of their formal clothes to more comfortable outfits and headed to the high school for round two of prom fun. There were many activities at post prom, including a cash cube, human foosball, an inflatable volcano rockwall, ping pong, and drawing for prizes. When announcing prizes, the large-prize winners of the T.V.’s were junior winner, Dylan Delka, and senior winner, Trevor Guenther. Many other students won smaller door-prizes once their names were drawn. After prizes, students were then grouped into the bleachers where they prepared to watch Swinging Watch Entertainment, a hypnotist out of Omaha, entrance 20 lucky students and use them for fellow students’ entertainment.

Senior class president, Bennett Hoffmann, said, “Prom was a fun and memorable time. The decorations were amazing, the music was great, and everyone was having fun. It was truly a night to remember.”
