Wrestlers Hit the Mat

The Bluejay wrestling team officially began their season as they had their first practice Wednesday, November 15.
This year’s wrestling team includes nine returning letterwinners, including two returning state qualifiers, out of 16 total participants. Returning lettermen include Cody Yawn (state qualifier), Ryder Fuchs (state qualifier), Nelson Emerson, Brett Tinker, Zane Gleason, Jayden Sporleder, Jeremiah Kruntorad, Dylan Kuehler, and Jacob Kerber.
Preparations for this year’s season began already over the summer as the team participated in camps and open mats. The first few days of practice included intense training and conditioning to prepare the team to wrestle full matches.
This year’s wrestling team has many strengths going into this season, including the young individuals that are joining and many who will be getting better and better this year.
Coach Tyler Legate said, “Our biggest challenge will be getting the new/young guys ready to compete at a high level every week. My goals are to finish in the top half of every tournament and have three to four medalists this year at state.”
The first wrestling meet will be Saturday, December 2, at O’Neill.
