Girls’ Golf Swings Back Into Season

by Katrina Meier

The girls’ golf team started their season with the beginning of their fall practice on Monday, August 7.

This year, the team is six members strong, with five returning letter winners: Amber Albrecht, Haley Dohmen, Paige Johnson, Samantha Svendsen, and Sydney Erickson.  Rebecca Albrecht is the final member of the team, and starting her first year of golf as a freshman.

During the summer the lady golfers worked hard to prepare for the upcoming season. The team has been participating in various camps, learning new skills, and reviewing some old ones.  Highlights from the camps were practicing swinging, chipping, putting, and driving. The girls also practiced at the course on their own time to be ready for their first competition.

The team has several team goals for this season, but the main one is to go to state as a team.

“With five returning letter winners this season, we have high expectations of excellent performances,” said coach Melinda Stelling.

The golfer's’ first competition will be an invitational on Thursday, August 17, in O’Neill.
