Students Participate in Mid-State Art Show

Several of Pierce High’s art students, taught by Mr. Tim Waldner, entered projects in the Mid-State art show, which took place at Sunset Plaza Mall in Norfolk. The work was judged and put on display from April 3-7.

There were five possible awards students could receive, purple being the highest, followed by blue, red, and white. Students could also receive a Teachers’ Choice Award, which is reserved for outstanding work.

In the design category, there were six submissions from Pierce High School. Annie Johnson and Holli Hoctor both earned purples for their work. Elizabeth Harris received a red, and Aleah Olson, Collin Tinker, and Jaden Gleason earned white ribbons.

In the colored pencil category, there were three submissions from Pierce. Holli Hoctor’s art named “Klint Inspired” won a purple ribbon. Paige Harvey’s work received a white ribbon, and Caitlyn Crist’s piece received a white ribbon.

In the ink category, there were two submissions from Pierce High School. Brianna Furstenau’s work received a red ribbon, and Rhayna Waldner’s art received a blue ribbon.

In the paint category, Pierce had three submissions, all by Holli Hoctor. Her paintings called “The King” and “Lost” received blue ribbons, and her other painting received a red ribbon.

In the oil-painting category, there were three submissions from Pierce. Annie Johnson’s work called, “Flower” received a blue ribbon. Grace Spieker’s painting received a purple ribbon and a Teacher’s Choice Award. Annie Johnson’s painting called “Drapery” received a purple ribbon and a Teacher’s Choice Award.

Finally, in the water-color category, there was one submission from Pierce High School. Annie Johnson’s piece received a purple ribbon.
