Bluejays End Season With Win Over Cadets
by Kaylee Dvorak

The Bluejay football season came to an end on a high note on Friday, October 14, as the Jays defeated the West Point-Beemer Cadets with a final score of 39-6.

For the first quarter of the night, the Cadets were the first to put points on the board, but the Jays blocked their extra point attempt and responded on offense. Brady Simmons would fire right back to put points on the board, scoring on a 39-yard pass from Dalton Freeman, and Devan Roth’s extra point was good. The Jays ended the first half on top with a score of 7-6.

After the halftime break, the Jays came out with a lot of intensity. Collin Tinker scored on a one-yard run, Carson Oestreich found the end zone on an eight-yard run, and Caleb Sullivan added to the Jays’ total with a huge 68-yard run. With the Jays’ defense holding strong against the Cadets, they went into the final quarter of the game leading 25-6.

For the last quarter of the night, Pierce didn’t let up on either side of the ball. Simmons and Dysen Roth both scored on touchdown passes from Freeman, both of Devan Roth’s points were good. The Bluejay defense once again held the Cadets out of the endzone, and the Jays ended the game on top with a score of 39-6.

The final regular season game was to be played this week against Madison. With the Dragons deciding to forfeit, however, this was the Jays’ last game of 2016. Their overall record was 2-6.

“The boys played with heart and emotion, so we are obviously quite pleased with the effort and execution,” said head coach Mark Brahmer. “We are obviously disappointed with how the season went and our overall record, but our boys and this team aren’t disappointing to me.”
