Cross Country Team Takes New Season In Stride
by Taylor Oestreich
Cross country season officially began on Monday, August 15, but the Bluejays cross country team has been training all summer for what looks to be a very promising season.
This year, five new runners have joined the team, and they are freshman Cole Vogt; sophomores Isaac Lambrecht, Dalton Haase, Logan Kallhoff; and senior Chance White. The team also has one returning letterwinner, junior Ian Fisher.
The team’s summer training consisted of team runs three days a week, with each run being followed by a session of weight training. With the season having officially started on the 15th, the team’s practices now include core exercises, stretching, short distance sprinting, and long distance running.
“I think the biggest goal is just to improve as the season goes on, have fun, enjoy the moment, and make sure that we are giving our best effort every time we compete,” said head coach Gary Shada about the team’s goals for this season.
The team’s first meet is Friday, September 2, in Albion.
