PHS Celebrates FCCLA Week

PHS Celebrates FCCLA Week
by Alyson Garcia

Pierce High celebrated National FCCLA week from Monday, February 9, through Friday, February 13.

FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America and is a very active club here in Pierce. This week is in celebration of FCCLA and helps raise awareness of the organization.

Everyday of the week had themed days. The week kicked off with Pajama Day on Monday along with an all member meeting at 7:00 that night, which included activities and cake and punch. Tuesday the theme was Mr. Brahmer or Superhero day, and the students had the choice to dress as either. Wednesday’s theme was to wear red, the FCCLA’s official color, then Thursday was to represent college by wearing college apparel to school. Finally, Friday’s theme was “Flashback Friday.” Students and staff could dress up with clothes from any other decade. Friday was also the day FCCLA members could join together in the Family and Consumer Science room for donuts and juice in the morning.

Additionally, on Friday, the FCCLA handed out Candy Grams that students had purchased from the organization’s members. This is the FCCLA’s largest fundraiser of the year, and this year, they made over $1200 for their activity.

This week was a load of fun events while students dressed up and pictures were taken. FCCLA advisor Cheryl Timm said that this year’s FCCLA week was “a success among the student body.” Her favorite dress up day was Mr. Brahmer and Superhero day.
