Birch Attends School Counselor’s Academy

Mary Birch, the PHS school counselor, attended the Nebraska School Counselor’s Academy clinic in Lincoln on Thursday and Friday, November 6 and 7. Along with being an attendee at the NSCA Counselors Academy clinic, Birch also attended the Habitudes clinic on Wednesday, November 5.
The Habitudes program, which Birch attended on November 5, is a program that gives schools a way to help students meet the Nebraska career and college readiness standards so that students know how to communicate effectively and appropriately with people in a workplace.
Birch’s next two days of professional development were very busy at the Nebraska School Counselors Academy, which many of the state’s school counselors attended. The first day, the counselors spent their time at workshops and seminars with Tim Elmore, a leading authority on how adults today can relate to the generation of teenagers. The second day, all the counselors went to different businesses and learned what people look for when hiring graduates.
Birch says she truly benefitted from the chance to attend these professional workshops. “I enjoyed it a great deal. I learned a bunch of up-to-date stuff, and I would definitely recommend it to other counselors,” said Birch.
