Under the Big Top was the theme for this year’s homecoming at Pierce High School. Homecoming week started Monday, September 22, and went through Saturday, September 27, with the highlight of royalty election taking place Friday, September 26. This year’s king and queen were Collin Freeman and Paige Spieker.
Throughout the week, students dressed up by various themes. Monday’s theme was Pajama Day, Tuesday was Neon day, Wednesday was Circus Day, and Thursday was Clean-Up Day. The final day was Friday, and the theme was Spirit Day.
The week came to a climax on Friday with a Homecoming Parade that started at the High School, stopped at the Elementary School for an autograph session and a presentation of all the fall extracurricular activities that are offered at the High School, then continued through downtown Pierce, and ended at Zion. A Pep Rally, put on by the cheerleaders, followed at the high school. This involved games played by the homecoming candidates. The rest of the day included a tailgate barbecue put on by the juniors to raise funds for prom, a home win for the football team against Wayne, and the coronation of king and queen.
Saturday followed with a homecoming dance at the Pierce Auditorium, which was decorated as a circus by the Boys and Girls Letter Club members to coincide with the week’s theme. Girls Letter Club president Tristen Sell said, “The Girl’s Letter Club did a fantastic job with decorations.”
