Community Service Day Held

Pierce High School’s students and staff had their 6th annual Community Service Day on Thursday, September 25. This was a day in which the junior and senior high school students and staff went out and helped clean, rebuild, and replant the community.
Principal Mark Brahmer said the reason Pierce High started Community Service Day is that throughout the nation, there are many schools that require community service for graduation. According to Brahmer, “It is a great way to give back to the people who have put their time, money, and effort to the school, as well as a great way for adults to teach children about helping others instead of only themselves.”
The tasks assigned for Community Service Day varied widely. Some students cleaned up Willow by picking up branches and cleaning up the roads. Others went to Prospect View Cemetery and cleaned garbage there. Several groups also visited the homes of Pierce citizens to do tasks such as window washing and garden cleaning. Additionally, highway cleanup was a big part of Community Service Day.
“I enjoy it. It makes me feel good to make people in the community happy,” said Principal Brahmer following the day.
