Speech Team Members Attend Workshop

Speech Team Members Attend Workshop
by Hailey Race

Five students who are a part of Pierce High’s speech team, along with their head coach, Melissa Legate, headed to Concordia University on Saturday, September 13, for a speech workshop.

During the workshop, the students went to several different sessions provided by CUNE’s college forensics professors and college speech team competitors. Some of the sessions included topic brainstorming, speech writing, characterization, and projection and body language. Head speech coach Melissa Legate said the best part was that the workshop, “gave the kids an early chance to practice and get excited about speech before the season starts in the winter”.

Team members Derek Ross, Michael Hoctor, Sam Halsey, Ethen Kuether, and Trevor Zellmer all attended the workshop with great intentions of learning.

Freshman speech team member Trevor Zellmer said “I think my favorite part was learning all the different types of speeches you can give. I really liked it. I think it helped me out a lot since I have never really been in speech before”.
