Pep Rally Excites Pierce High

Pep Rally Excites Pierce High
by Emily Simmons

Pierce High’s fall cheerleaders kicked off the first pep rally for fall activities on Wednesday, August 20. The staff and student body gathered outside by the football field to enjoy the entertaining music and games.

The pep rally was kicked off when seniors involved in all the fall sports including softball, football, golf, cross country, and volleyball were recognized. The seniors were then part of the first game of the pep rally, consisting of guessing. The cheerleaders read the crowd a factual sentence about a mystery senior athlete, and the student body would then try to guess who it was. Students who guessed correctly won a t-shirt.

The second pep rally game involved the football boys. They were asked by the cheerleaders to select the strongest among them. Little did they know, some of the players were participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge, a nation-wide nomination game where ice water is poured on someone’s head. Among the gentlemen being subjected to the Ice Bucket Challenge was head coach Mark Brahmer. The athletes from the other fall sports then took turns emptying buckets over the football players and coach Brahmer.

Two of the football players got away without the cold water dumped on them, as their buckets were filled with only popcorn and cheerleader pom-poms, but Brahmer and the rest of the boys weren’t so fortunate.

Despite the being doused with ice water in front of the student body, coach Brahmer said, “it was invigorating.”

Ending the pep rally was the home fight song played by the PHS pep band. Even though some of the students were soaking wet, all present had enough Bluejay pride to stand up and clap to show their support of the fall sports teams.
