State FCCLA Conference Held

State FCCLA Conference Held
by London Sindelar

Members of the Pierce FCCLA chapter attended the State Leadership Conference in Lincoln from Sunday, April 6, to Tuesday, April 8.
Members who attended included seniors London Sindelar, Alissa Hoffmann, Autumn Baumann, Martina Wickett, Taylor Aschoff, and Nicole Sullivan; juniors Sydney Acklie, Alyson Garcia, and Krista Rystrom; and sophomores Shelby Ronspies, Kaylee Dankert, Emily Bjorklund, Desirea Druyor, Mariah West, and Courtney Hansen; along with their advisor Cheryl Timm and chaperone Sara Baumann.
While at the leadership conference, members could attend leadership sessions, watch STAR events, visit the opportunity fair, and much more. Hoffmann, being a State Peer Education officer, had many more activities she helped with. At the end of the conference, she had to relinquish her spot as the Families First Vice-Chairperson for the upcoming year’s new officer.
Additionally, Hoffmann and Aschoff competed in the State STAR competition with their Chapter Service Manual about the annual Memory Tree Project. The team was awarded a bronze medal. Sullivan also competed in the STAR competition with her National Programs in Action project “Don’t Stress the Dress.” She was awarded a silver medal.
Sindelar, Baumann, Wickett, Aschoff, and Ronspies competed in the State Knowledge Bowl Test. In the process for the test, the members had to complete a written test and, if scoring high enough, were able to compete in the buzzer round. After the written test, the team was in 5th place. After competing in the buzzer round, the team placed 3rd overall.
Senior Alissa Hoffmann said, “Since this was my last state conference, I really tried to make it the best it could be. Although we didn’t do as well as we hoped for in STAR, but there were other parts of the conference that made up for it. It was an emotional weekend for some of us as seniors, and I know we will always look back at these FCCLA memories as one of the best times we’ve had in high school.”
