Pierce FCCLA Takes Home Gold

Pierce FCCLA Takes Home Gold
by London Sindelar

Pierce High’s FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter took five competitors to the District 8 STAR competition at Wayne State College on Wednesday, January 22. The Pierce chapter had five gold medalists and three state qualifiers.
STAR is Students Taking Action with Recognition. Pierce competed against seven other schools: Battle Creek, Bloomfield, Creighton, Crofton, Elgin, Neligh-Oakdale, and Plainview. Over 100 members competed in the many contest categories that day. The numbers were down from previous years, but the competition was still high.
Throughout the day, the competitors practiced and presented each of their presentations to the judges. At the end of this stressful day, the awards ceremony was held. Each competitor receives a bronze (3rd place), a silver (2nd place), or a gold (1st place). The top places in each category are eligible to go to the State Competition to compete.
Seniors Autumn Baumann and London Sindelar received Gold for their Illustrated Talk project over Birth Order. Seniors Alissa Hoffmann and Taylor Aschoff received Top Gold for their Chapter Service Manual project over the Memory Tree. Senior Nicole Sullivan received Top Gold for her National Programs in Action-Power of One project over Don’t Stress the Dress. Alissa Hoffmann, Taylor Aschoff, and Nicole Sullivan will be moving on to compete again at the State Competition in April at the Nebraska State FCCLA Conference in Lincoln.
In the end, all of the Pierce FCCLA chapter’s competitors came home with gold, which was a goal that they all wanted to accomplish.
Senior state qualifier Taylor Aschoff said, “The day went pretty smoothly, but there were a few bumps along the way that my partner Alissa and I had to face. I know Alissa and I are very excited to be moving onto state.”
