FCA Chapter Starts New Year

By Natasha Zamora

Has anyone ever felt down at the end of the game, only for a teammate to come and provide a boost? This is what FCA is all about coming together and helping each other when people feel alone. FCA kicked off its meeting on August 19 at Dan and Melinda Stellings’ house.

The meal starts at 6:30 p.m. followed by the bible study after. All 9-12 graders are allowed to attend and do not have to be athletes.

For many students, school is about homework, friends, and sports. But for some students, it is about growing their faith. FCA stands for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; it is a Christian organization that is to get the word out there about how Christian faith and athletics can go together and how to glorify god through athletics.

“I think it is important because when you have like-minded people that are doing the same thing for the same purpose, you can get a lot more accomplished when you have several people or a group of people rather than individuals.” FCA’s leader, M. Stelling, said.

Returning FCA member Kaelyn Halsey points out, “I feel like it opened my eyes, making me feel seen and also learning so much more in faith.”

Back in the early 90s, FCA first started, but it was not how it is now. They would usually meet one Sunday a month. As years went by, around 2007, a big group of kids wanted to dig a little deeper into the bible.

That is when Wednesday meetings came to be. As time went on the bigger the group of kids would have a whole meal at the Stellings' house and have devotional bible study afterwards. As they got more people, they got more physical resources.

FCA is an organization that gathers together and keeps each other up. Also it helps grow faith in God’s word. “FCA is like a big family, as they helped me through my high school years,” Halsey said.

FCA will not meet this week, but plan to be there Wednesday, September 2, at 6:30.
