Girls Golf Drives Their Way Through the State Tournament
By Eleanor Bauermeister
The feeling at the NSAA Girls 2026 state golf tournament was unlike any other. You could feel the anticipation, anxiety, and overall excitement from competitors, coaches, and spectators alike.
“When I teed off on the first day, I was excited but also a little nervous. I had worked hard all season to get there, so I just wanted to play my best and enjoy the experience,” Camassia White, a junior and first time state qualifier, said.
Pierce High was proud to send not one, but two golfers to the state tournament. White and Brooke Podany got the chance to make their debut at the state tournament this past October 12 and 13 at Lake Mahoney Golf Course in North Platte.
“My only goal going in was just to not get last place and to score better on the second day,” Podany, also a junior and first time state qualifier, said.
To start day one, White shot a 96. On day two, she shot an 85 for a total score of 181, which placed her in 29th place. Podany shot a 100 on day one and a 96 on day two. This placed Podany in 49th place with a total score of 196.
“I felt that Brooke and Camassia both golfed well, considering it was their first time golfing at the state championship. Most of the time when competitors are competing at the state tournament for the first time, there are a lot of emotions and nerves. Camassia and Brooke did not let the emotions and nerves get to them and ended up golfing well,” head coach Jason Freudenburg said.
Podany and White both had a great season, and Pierce High is excited to see what next season has in store for them. Make sure to congratulate them and the girls golf team on a great season.
