Cupcake Wars 10th anniversary

By Tiffany Chaney

This year was the 10th anniversary of the foods and nutrition class competing against each other in Cupcake Wars. Angela Brodersen's class worked with the intro to business class to market the stands and also with Jon Dixon's shop class to build the stands. The theme this year was the County Fair, where each group had multiple displays.

“I think it went very well,” Brodersen, the foods and nutrition teacher, stated.

Chloe Warneke, Bailee Thelen, and Lawson Zierke did cherry cola and cotton candy. They had a food truck display with what you might see at the fair.

“Well, I wasn't here much this week, but to see them execute their plan was very fun,” Brodersen stated.

Next, Haley Scholting, Dylan Braun, Aiden Pospisil, and Ethan Nordby did a tractor pull stand. Their flavors were triple chocolate and strawberry cupcakes. Since they have a tractor pull at our county fair, that is where they got their inspiration from

Then, Essynce Owens-Webb, Sean Monroe, Tate Wales, and MaKenna Blecher had chocolate caramel and pink buttercream frosting. Their theme was pig wrestling. They were inspired by the farm animals at the fair.

“My favorite part of making the cupcakes was making the frosting sweet,” Kaid. Ronnfeldt, a senior, stated.

Last were Kenzi Nygren, Kaiden Ronnfeldt, and Kain Ronnfeldt. They made a lemonade stand with strawberry lemonade cupcakes. The base was lemon with strawberry jam, and the frosting was strawberry buttercream and jam mixed together.

“Probably just having to be creative and think about what would wow the judges,” Kenzi Nygren, a senior, stated.

In the end, the strawberry lemonade cupcake stand by Nygren and the Ronnfeldt twins won with their lemon base and strawberry jam, and the strawberry buttercream and jam mixed together with lemon candy on top to add that sour and sweet mixture.
