The Bluejay’s Queen and King Crowned at Homecoming

The stands were packed; the football boys had won, but the roar of the crowd had quieted to an anticipated hush. Four girls and four boys stood on the track, waiting for the announcement that would name the homecoming queen and king.
After a few suspenseful moments, the announcement was made: Nora Herian was the queen and Gavin Lubischer was the king.
“I was surprised and grateful. I didn’t think that I was going to win,” Herian said.
Before the football game or the announcement of king and queen, a week filled with decorating, fun, and memories took place. Every day, students were able to dress according to the themes; the girls letter club skipped classes on Thursday and Friday to decorate the auditorium for the dance; and on Friday, students and teachers headed to the elementary school for a short pep rally, before parading through the downtown, and then going back to the high school for the actual pep rally.
“I love doing all of the autographs at the elementary. I think it is fun when the kids come up to you and do all that stuff,” Herian said.
When Friday night finally came, everyone was excited for a great matchup and for everything to come after. At halftime, the candidates, Mya Froehlich, Nora Herian, Payton Montgomery, and Haley Scholting, put on their dresses and makeup, and after the football boys won, Cole DeBoer, Gavin Lubischer, Ethan Nordby, and Kendall Shada made their way over to the girls.
Mya Johnson and Kaiden Fritz, last year’s homecoming queen and king, walked after the candidates, as well as the girls letter club and boys letter club sponsors, Jada Brummels and Aiden Pospisil, with crown bearers Lauren and Lillian King.
“I hope they remember some of their high school memories, and that it was one of the dances that they can enjoy–a time to come back and have fun,” Shelly Adams, sponsor of the girls letter club, said.
It was a perfect night for homecoming, and the entire week was filled with fun and memories that will last a lifetime.
