Bluejay’ Season Ends at Districts

By Kinley Hilkemann

The Pierce Bluejays showed strong effort throughout the game, creating opportunities at the plate and on the basepaths. The team continued to compete and looked for ways to build momentum throughout the game.

Athena Bretschneider provided a spark at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Jessa Kraft also contributed an RBI for Pierce.

The Bluejays were aggressive on the basepaths, finishing with five stolen bases. Bretschneider and Evelyn Skrdla each recorded multiple stolen bases, helping Pierce create additional scoring opportunities. Kaelyn Halsey also contributed from the circle, pitching 4⅓ innings and continuing to battle for the Bluejays. Pierce’s offensive contributions and aggressive baserunning highlighted the team’s effort throughout the game.

As the Pierce softball season came to an end at districts, the senior players reflected on their accomplishments and memories from their time with the team.

“The thing I will miss most is the support I received from the team in the dugout and on the field after a bad play or hit,” the catcher, Kraft said.

“Our girls put a lot of time into their development since March. This team kept getting better each week throughout the season. One specific sign of growth was avenging three losses from earlier in the year. We had three games canceled because of rain that could have pushed us over the .500 mark. Overall, our competitiveness and hunger to win put the program in a good place. I was very proud of the team's buy in this year. They chose the motto, ‘Play for her.’ Their selfless attitude and teamwork proved to be perfect for this saying,” coach Ryan Ohnoutka said.

The game marked the end of the season for Pierce, with the Bluejays finishing their final outing after a season of competition. The team’s offensive contributions and baserunning were among the highlights of the game.
