What is ROAM/Stepping Stones?
By Riley Lawrence
Three Mondays out of each month, Pierce Jr/Sr High School students have meetings in groups with their ROAM (Relax on a Monday) group advisor. In these groups, students participate in a variety of activities, including setting goals, WinAtSocial activities, and a monthly event called Monday Funday.
In these groups, students meet with a teacher adviser where they participate in various goal-setting activities, known at Pierce High as Stepping Stones to Success. Some of the activities that students participate in include 1-on-1 meetings with their teachers, where they review students' grades and attendance and identify ways the student can improve academically.
Other activities include WinAtSocial, where students complete online activities as a group and learn how to communicate with others while also learning how to be more social as students.
Moving on to the Monday Funday activities, the students gather in the gym to watch and take part in activities. Many different groups host these activities throughout the school. Whether it is the FFA, student council, journalism, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Secret Kindness Agents, or other student groups, these activities are very fun for the student body, and most students get excited when they hear it is Monday Funday.
“I really enjoy Monday Funday because it's an opportunity for students and teachers just kind of to enjoy each other and have that social interaction,” FCCLA sponsor and ROAM advisor, Angie Broderson said.
