After auditions, Spencer Sindt qualified and traveled to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) for the Winter Winds honor band invitation from guest conductor Carolyn Barber, on January 30-February 1.
The UNL Winter Winds honor band event is an annual, audition-based event for brass, woodwind, and percussion students hosted by the University of Nebraska at Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. The event is to provide a higher level of musical experience for selected students, and it consists of a rehearsal, masterclasses, and a final concert.
After exhaustive auditions, Pierce High honor band student, Sindt, who plays trombone, successfully auditioned to get into the UNL Winter Winds honor band. The auditions consisted of performing scales, etudes, and a solo on video.
“For my solo, I picked an adaptation of an Arthur Pryor solo titled 'Annie Laurie’. The songs Sindt performed were ‘Lincolnshire Posy’ by Percy Grainger and ‘Lonesome Valley Folk Suite’ by James M. Stephens,” Sindt says.
The festival had numerous performances, but the final performance took place in the Kimball recital hall at UNL at 3:00 p.m. on February 1.
