Is Soup a Full Meal?

By Rylee Altwine

As the winter days are getting colder, the most famous dish to have is soup.

Soup can be a variety of different food items. Some might be more broth-based, more vegetable-based, or loaded with meats and vegetables. Soup is a warm touch to the cold winter days.

Some people think soup is a nice meal to have in the winter days and others do not enjoy soup as much. Many say soup is a full meal and nothing else is needed with the soup for it to be a meal. Some think the opposite of soup. They say it is not a full meal and people need to have something with it to fulfill the soup experience.

“I don’t think that soup is a full meal and you need to have some dinner rolls or something with the soup to complete the meal,” senior Aubree Uribe said.

“I don’t like soup except for the chicken and gnocchi from Olive Garden. I don’t consider soup as a full meal but more as a side. I prefer stews over soup,” senior Elizabeth Furstenau said.

Opinions differ as to whether soup constitutes a meal.

“I love soup. My favorite soup is broccoli cheddar soup. Soup is a warm comfort meal on a cold winter’s day,” senior Kenzie Lawrence said.

Depending on what is in the soup a person is eating, it will make it a full meal or not. The more broth filled soup with fewer vegetables and meat is not a full meal. But a soup filled with everything, for example, chicken noodle soup that has a good variety of everything, is considered a full meal. Some soups can be considered a full meal, and others not so much.
