Sophomores Take Their First Major Test

By Brianna Rundell

It is that time of year again when the sophomores take the PreACT and get a grasp on what they will face again in their junior year when they have to take the full ACT

The PreACT consists of four sections: English, math, science, and reading. In total, this test takes roughly three hours to complete.

The highest composite score that can be achieved on the test is 36; taking this as a pretest prepares students for the actual test and in some cases predicts how students will do on the actual ACT.

“I thought it was going to be way longer and way more difficult. Some of the questions were way more difficult, but some of them were pretty easy,”  sophomore Collin Wessendorf  said.

Most sophomores might agree that taking the Pre-ACT is not their favorite, but it will prepare them for the future.

“There are two reasons that we take the pre-ACT, one, it is preparing you for the ACT, when you think about the ACT, there is John Baylor but you don’t really do a practice test, the Pre-ACT is kind of like a practice test and secondly another reason why it is important is because it informs parents and it informs students about where they have deficit, guidance counselor Danielle Goetsch says. “If they are looking into certain programs and their math scores come back pretty low, it's indicative that they need to take more math to get stronger scores to get into those programs.”

In addition to the PreACT to prepare for their futures, sophomores will attend a career day on October 14.
