The Actors and Actresses Take the Stage to Perform the “Perfect” Play

By Elizabeth Furstenau

After weeks of preparation, the all school production of The Play That Goes Wrong by Henry Lewis officially came together. It was performed for the high school students and staff Thursday, April 10, and the public on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.

The performers had to arrive at the auditorium to begin their makeup and hair at 5 p.m. so that they would be ready to hit the stage by 7.

A lot of technical work was put into this play. For each of the mistakes to happen, the crew had to come up with a few ways to make the vision come to life.

“It was a lot of trial and error,” crew member Veronica Orona states. “We watched many YouTube videos and did some research. After the Mount Marty performance, we finally decided to use magnets.”

During the weeks leading up to the performance, the cast began stressing out about being ready to perform.

In the end, everyone managed to stage the perfect “not so perfect” play.

Each year awards are given to a few individuals who the directors thought stood out in practices and performances. This year Boston Krueger, Brecken Schwartz, Kreighton Simpson, Nickolas Efta, Kaylee Steffen, Veronica Orona, Brailey Jensen, Cooper Collins, Elliot Vanness, Addison Frye, Lauren Delka, Mya Johnson, and Elizabeth Furstenau were rewarded with medals for their hard work and dedication.

There is also a second award given to the person who takes a strong leadership role in theatre onstage and off. This year’s Career Thespian Award was awarded to Aubrey Hanson. She was given this award “for not only her leadership, but also her consistent work, effort, and positive attitude,” Brock Bretschneider states.

Hanson has participated in the all school play for five years and Saturday night marked her final performance.

“It was such a fun show, and there couldn’t have been a harder working cast and crew to make the final production amazing,” Hanson states.
