The Varsity Girls Get the Sweat Taste of Victory Over the Crofton Warriors

The girls varsity basketball team handed Crofton their first loss from a Nebraska team on Thursday, January 30, and earned the sweet taste of victory with the 44-34 win. The Pierce girls came out on top and kept trucking all game bringing them yet another win.
“I thought we did a very good job of playing defense, taking care of the ball, and rebounding,” Skyler Scholting, a point guard for the Jays, explained.
The first quarter went well. The Bluejays finished the first quarter in the lead, 10-4.
The Pierce girls then scored another 10 points, which brought their lead up to 20-15 to end the first half.
The Bluejays did not lose their spark and came out hot after half scoring another 11. The lead after three quarters was 31-22.
Ending the game out on top in the fourth quarter with another 13 points gave Pierce the 44-34 win.
“I think the team did very well overall, we did good with our defense making sure to get rebounds and stopping the ball when needed. Offensively we found the open spot and were able to take it to them.” Hadley Wragge states.
Pierce is in the Mid-State conference tournament this week.
Girls Basketball Come Close to Beating the West Point-Beemer Cadets

It was yet another close game for the girls basketball team on Tuesday, January 28, when the Bluejays ventured to West Point to battle the Cadets and although the Bluejays tried and tried, they could not catch up for the win.
“I thought the girls did a nice job playing defense and rebounding,” head coach Darin Suckstorf claims. “We just need to continue to work on improving our field goal percentage.”
The game immediately started close. Despite strong efforts from the Bluejays in the first quarter, the Cadets took the lead with a 12-10 scoreboard.
The Jays managed to catch up to the Cadets in the second quarter. The teams were all tied up at 16 by the end of the first half.
The Bluejays took the lead in the third quarter. They added 11 points to their total while the Cadets only acquired six points. The final score of the quarter was 27-22 putting the Bluejays ahead.
Unfortunately, the Cadets took back the lead and won the game. The final score of the night was 40-35 in favor of the Cadets.
Remaining the point queen, Skylar Scholting led with 15 points. Following behind were Abigail Cone and Haley Scholting each with six points. Emily Endorf added four points for the team. Aubrey Hanson and Nora Herian each contributed two points to the board.
“I think for the most part we played well,” H. Scholting states. “They were a fast team, and we were able to slow them down for the most part throughout the game.”
