All About FFA

By Jessa Kraft

Now, students may be thinking FFA is just for farmers, but many students do not live on a farm. However, the FFA institution was built for each and every student.

“FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners, and more,” the National FFA Organization states.

“FFA used to be recognized as the Future Farmers of America, but is now known as the National FFA Organization because FFA is meant for everyone,” Evelyn Skrdla, the Pierce FFA reporter said.

The goals of this institution are to develop the potential in each student for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. Joining FFA does not mean they want students to pick an agriculture-related career, but they prepare anyone to start any profession. The FFA association promotes the work on an SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience). This project could be considered the start of a business. One of Pierce FFA’s members started his operation as SAE and now has customers in all fifty states.

FFA’s meetings are monthly and are only an hour or less long. “Our monthly meetings are an opportunity for our members to be updated on all of our upcoming activities and also give them a chance to introduce new business that they feel is important to share with the chapter,” Mathew Neal, the advisor of Pierce FFA said.

Though the meetings are of major importance, there is not a huge amount of time taken out of the school year for them, and many members are involved in other activities as well as this organization. Pierce FFA is also an awesome way to connect with the community.

“Our members are also involved in community service,” Neal said. Some of the members just volunteered their time at the nursing home, hanging out and playing games with their elders. FFA is not just for farmers, it is for the development of any student, the brightness of our school, and the health of the community. Join FFA!
