High School Competes in Quiz Bowl
By Skylar Scholting
On February 28, the high school quiz bowl team–consisting of Brayden Kuper, Travis Emory, Madelyn Hanson, Emma Risinger, Aubrey Hanson, and Abigail Cone–ventured to Neligh, to compete in the annual ESU 8 Quiz Bowl.
Risinger mentions, “I like quiz bowl because it is a fun way to showcase some of the random trivia you know and a lot of times, you learn something you didn't before. It's always an interesting day of competition, even when we don't do as well as we had hoped.”
The team was asked numerous questions under a wide range of topics: physiology, physics, geography, and literature.
In the first round of competition, the Bluejays beat Osmond with a score of 35-30. The next match was against West Holt, which the Jays lost 60-20. The third match was against O’Neill and the Bluejays lost 60-10.
Kuper states, “We could’ve done better but we probably would’ve been more prepared if we had practiced more.”
The Pierce High quiz bowl team will compete again at the Mid-State conference quiz bowl in Pierce on Monday, March 25.
