Two Qualify for State FCCLA

By Emma Risinger

On Thursday, January 24, FCCLA members Shaylee Gardner, Aubree Uribe, and Colby Podany competed at the District 7 and 8 FCCLA STAR competition at Wayne State College. STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition.

Uribe and Podany competed in National Programs in Action and received second place for runner-up silver, and will advance to the state level.

“I’m really proud of my project and all we have done for it,” says Podany. “I’d say it took a lot of work, a lot of dedication. We’re probably going to look at the rubric again, make sure some of the guidelines are [met], and just clean it up a little bit. ”

Additionally, Gardner competed in Career Investigations and placed third. Although her project will not advance, she will be able to attend the state conference, as attendance is open to any members who competed in STAR, regardless of placement.

Our chapter has more members this year than it has had in the past seven years I have been the advisor,” said Brodersen, remarking on some of the chapter's accomplishments this season. “I am very happy to see members taking an active role in our chapter and making a difference in our school and our community.”

The FCCLA State Leadership Conference will be held April 7-9.
