Pierce FCA Continues Strong
By Alanna McKeown
Pierce FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athlete) is an organization for grades 9-12 students that continues to stay strong for students who choose to participate.
Pierce FCA gatherings are held at Dan and Melinda Stelling’s house at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Members gather for food and fellowship time. In addition, FCA members volunteer in the community at different times throughout the year.
The overall vision of FCA is to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.
The mission of FCA is to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.
M. Stelling states, “In our Pierce huddle we try to accomplish this [the mission] by meeting weekly during the school year at our house. High school student-athletes in grades 9-12 are welcome to come for a meal, followed by some sort of bible study/devotional. Many times the devotional focuses on the topic of "Doing Sports God's Way" and discussing how students can use their platform of athletics and other extra-curricular activities to share the gospel. We also emphasize serving others and try to have several opportunities throughout the year where FCA members can put this into action, such as providing and serving a meal at the Norfolk Rescue Mission, packaging meals at Mercy Meals, and through coaches appreciation week right here at Pierce High School.”
M. Stelling goes on to say, “FCA means a great deal to me. I have been involved in the organization either as an athlete or huddle leader ever since I was in high school. I've seen the positive impact it can have on athletes and coaches and how it is truly a life-changing, life-giving experience.”
FCA is also important to the students of Pierce High.
Alyssa Kuper, sophomore FCA member states, “FCA means a lot to me. We get to have fun with our friends and peers while learning more about God at the same time.”
Pierce FCA is open to any student in grades 9-12.
