Lady Jays Volleyball

Lady Jays Dominant at Madison Tournament

By Lauren Ueding

The Lady Jays Volleyball team claimed the championship at the Madison Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 23.

“Overall I think the girls did a pretty good job. All of our games over the weekend were sweeps, so that is always a good indicator of good plays. We also have some games that we really were able to work on like some different combinations and different plays that will help prep us for tougher games in our schedule because we know we have some really tough games coming up next couple of weeks that it will be good to prepare for the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge game,” said assistant coach Katie Brummels.

The Lady Jays first played Madison. The first set was a huge sweep for the Lady Jays, who dominated the Dragons 25-6. The Lady Jays pulled another win in the second set against the Dragons 25-15 and won the game 2-0 once again.

For the second game, Pierce played Wisner-Pilger. The first set was an amazing set for the Lady Jays as they defeated the Gators 25-17. The second set, however, was a tight set for the Lady Jays as they won it 27-25.

For the championship game, the Lady Jays played Laurel-Concord-Coleridge. In the first set, the Lady Jays scored 25 while the Bears scored only 19. The second set was very tight for the Lady Jays, who came away victorious 26-24. The Lady Jays pulled a victory and won the game 2-0.

“Overall we did pretty well, but there are some areas we need to improve on like serving and serving receive and out of system,” said Nora Herian.

The Lady Jays play at Ponca for a triangular on Thursday, Sept. 28.
