FCCLA State Competition Success

By Autumn Lambrecht

On Sunday, April 2 through Tuesday, April 4, the Pierce High FCCLA members attended the FCCLA state convention in Lincoln.

Members began by attending an opening session on Sunday. Then on Monday, all of the competitors for STAR projects competed at different times throughout the day.

FCCLA sponsor, Angie Brodersen adds, “It takes quite a bit of dedication and commitment to see a STAR project through. Each one of our four STAR competitors started last August and that makes for a long season with lots of time and commitment.”

Senior Ciara Garcia, sophomore Jana Stone, and freshman Alyssa Kuper worked as consultants and timed the STAR projects.

Guest speaker, Melvin Adams was also there to talk to all the FCCLA members attending. On the last day, members attended a district  meeting that lasted from 8:30-9:30 a.m. After the meeting, they held awards from 9:30-11:30.

Freshman Aubree Uribe was the champion gold in fashion construction and has the opportunity to present at National FCCLA competition.

“It was a lot of hard work and it took some time investment,” Uribe comments, “but I was able to learn new skills. It was fun kind of and unexpected, but it was a good experience. I am very proud of our FCCLA chapter.”

Next up, sophomore Izzabelle Price was the runner-up second gold in Nebraska family challenges and issues.

Senior Morgan Schnoor placed sixth overall in job interview, while junior Jordan Kuether received silver in career investigations.

Wrapping up their weekend, members attended the closing session from 11:30-12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
