Pierce Boys Take on State Duals

The Pierce boys headed out to Kearney on Saturday, February 4, to compete in the NSAA State Dual tournament. Pierce would have two duals on the day; first against the Fillmore Central Panthers, then against the Logan View Raiders.

Starting with the Fillmore Central dual, both teams had an open weight at 106. 

At 113, Corbin Pfeil took the win due to Fillmore Central having an open spot.

In 120, Draydin Gossman pinned Brenner McCann-Coen in 2:27.

For 126, Elijah Streff fell to Travis Meyer in 1:24.

Brenden Bolling won at 132 against Dulan Gewecke in a 6-2 decision.

Peyton Kuntorad fell to Alexander Shademann in 2:51 in the 138 weight class.

With 145, Chase Rasmussen fell to Aiden Hinrichs in 1:22.

Another Bluejay would drop as Jackson Fischer at 152 fell to Wyatt Rayburn in 5:24.

Earning points for the Jays, Jayden Coulter at 160 won by a major decision of 12-1 over Treven Stassines.

Extending the points, Blake Bolling in 1:45 pinned Domonic Harding for the 170 weight.

Bl. Bolling says, “I think that the team did the best we could with all the injuries we had. There’s definitely some small details that we need to iron out heading into districts week so that we can send some guys down to state.”

Zavien Buol at 182 fell to Jackson Turner in 1:20.

At 195, Christian Nordby lost by decision against Blake Nun 5-2. 

Boston Krueger at 220 won by decision 4-3 over Hunter Lukes. 

Rounding out the Jays, Dawson Raabe at 285 won in a tiebreaker against Markey Hinrich 2-1.

Pierce would ultimately drop this dual 33-31. Following the bracket, the Jays would then take on the Logan View Raiders, battling to make it to the fifth-place match.

Starting with 106, both teams would once again have an open weight.

For 113, Pfeil would pin Dylan Palmer in 1:23.

At 120, Gossman would lose to Jacob McGee by tech fall, 19-2.

The 126 weight class saw Streff falling to Sam Peter in 5:09.

Br. Bolling would battle it out at 132, losing by decision 2-0 to Kaden Gregory. 

Rasmussen at 138 and Fischer at 145 fell to Chance Foust in 4:49 and Aiden Crawford in 1:51, respectively. 

Giving points to the Jays, Jayden Coulter at 152 won by pin over Owen Meyer in :32.

Cayden Cox at 160 fell to Wyatt Willnerd in 5:19.

Bl. Bolling at 170 pinned Tregan Fitzke in 1:59.

At 182, Buol fell to Gavin Ruwe in 1:52.

Falling in 1:26, Clayton Carlson lost to Braydon Wobken at 195.

For 220, Krueger fell in 1:05 to Jayden Stillman.

Closing out, Raabe won by fall in :35 over Garret Gahner.

Pierce dropped this match by a score of 50-24.

Head coach Tyler Legate says, “The boys battled really hard, obviously we came up short, but they still did a great job. I wish I could have done some different things looking back on it now, but I’m proud for the battle the boys displayed.”

The Bluejays will wrestle in district competition on Friday and Saturday at Norfolk Catholic High School.
