FCCLA STAR Competition

By Natalie Kosch

On Wednesday, January 25, Pierce High’s FCCLA traveled to Wayne State College to compete on the district level. The STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) competition is an opportunity for FCCLA members to research and present their knowledge in a specific area in order to qualify for state.

A total of four members from Pierce High attended, those members being Jordan Kuether, Morgan Schnoor, Izzabelle Price, and Aubree Uribe. All four were district champions and, therefore, qualified for state FCCLA in Lincoln, which will be held April 2-4.

Schnoor competed in the job interview category. Schnoor had to research and find out how to apply for a professional job as a teenager. She stated, “Everyone was nervous at first, but once we began to compete, we loosened up.”

Uribe was involved in a fashion category where she presented a formal dress that she made herself.

Price competed in family challenges that she based off of early literacy.

Kuether took part in career investigations where he had to research a career and do a job shadow, then present what he learned.

Kuether comments, “Overall I believe that my performance went well and after competing I feel more prepared and know what I have to work on when it comes to state.”

Students will compete at the State Leadership Conference held in Lincoln at Pinnacle Bank Arena April 2-4.
