New Marquee at PHS

Thanks in large part to the Pierce High Student Council, a new electronic sign is in place at the corner of Main and Sunset Streets, or the southeast corner of the high school.

“These student council members worked hard, they showed a lot of leadership, they took this [sign project] as their own challenge,” remarks Deb Koehlmoos, student council sponsor. “The sign looks great, and they should be really proud of the job they’ve done. I think it’s a great addition to the community. It’s something where they came together; it’s what you want to see in leadership in the future. I’m mostly proud of the kids who raised money, met with different people from the community and Love Signs and pulled it together.”

Student council wanted to do something for the community, and that’s where the pickle ball court came in. In addition, the high school student council wanted to complete a project that would have a lasting impact and make the school look more up to date, so the student council sent a survey to the entire student body and an electronic sign was the top choice.

President of student council, Morgan Moeller, remarks, “Student council likes to work to improve our school and our community.”

Over a year of planning took place to see the actual sign come to fruition. Student council members had to go to Love Signs in Norfolk, talk with actual business people there to create designs. Members then met in a variety of meetings with the school board, booster club, and city council to finalize the design plans, location, and installment of the sign.

Electrical work will be finished by Scott Marks Electric later this week.

The Pierce Athletic Booster Club and Pierce Public Schools also contributed money toward the new sign.
