Lady Jays Secure First Win in Wayne Tournament

On Saturday, August 20, the Pierce Lady Jays traveled to Wayne to compete in a softball tournament against Twin River, Ord, and Ponca.
To start the day, the Lady Jays took on the Twin River Titans. Despite their efforts, Pierce fell 10-0. Alexis Sporleder, Kylie Dvorak, and Lauren Darnall all had no fielding errors. Dvorak also contributed to the effort with one strikeout.
For the second game, the Lady Jays played the Ord Chanticleers taking a 14-2 victory. Alexis Sporleder and Isabelle Skrdla led the team with two hits each. Following them with one hit each were Hayle DeBoer, Shaylee Gardner, Madelyn Hanson, Aubrey Hanson, Darnall, and Brooke Reddest.
To end the day, Pierce was defeated by the Ponca Indians 7-3. I. Skrdla led the team in hits with two. Darnall and Reddest each had one hit a piece. Pitching wise for the Lady Jays, Peyton Brunckhorst had two strikeouts, along with Hayle DeBoer, A. Hanson, and Darnall each had one strikeout. I. Skrdla had two stolen bases.
Darnall commented, “We did well communicating, but we have a long way to go and need to eliminate the simple mistakes.”
The Lady Jays will be taking on the North Bend Tigers on Thursday, August 25.
Pierce Falls to Ponca in Opening Game

To kick off their 2022 season, the Pierce Lady Jays traveled to Ponca to take on the Indians. Despite their efforts, Pierce ended up with a 13-5 loss.
Starting in the first inning, the Lady Jays scored one run, but the Indians were able to bring in six runs. Moving into the second, both teams added one more run to their total. In the third inning, the Lady Jays drove in two runs while the Indians added three more. Heading into the fourth, Pierce was unable to score, while Ponca brought in three more. Lastly, the Lady Jays brought in one more, but were unable to come back, leaving the final at 13-5.
Sophomore Alexis Sporleder commented on the game, “I think the first game went decently. We have a lot to improve on, but as the season goes on, we won't have those mistakes.”
Sporleder led the team with two hits, including a triple. Isabelle Skrdla also hit a triple along with Hayle DeBoer getting a double. Madelyn Hanson and Addison Sporleder each contributed one hit to the game as well.
Al. Sporleder also led the team in runs with three, along with DeBoer and Lauren Darnall adding one. Ad. Sporleder and Skrdla each had one RBI for the game.
Head coach Marika VonSeggern stated, “We made a few too many errors and allowed Ponca too many unearned runs. It's the little things we need to take a step back and focus on. Going into the season, I am excited to see how well this team can do.”
The Lady Jays will be back on the field on Thursday, August 25, at their home field against North Bend Central starting at 6:30 p.m.
