Boys Basketball Punch Their Ticket to State

by Alexis Schnoor

The Pierce boys basketball team made the trek to Wahoo on Saturday, February 27, to play in the district finals round against the Wahoo Warriors, and the Bluejays took the 53-45 win and are headed to state.

In the first quarter, the Jays started the game in the lead with a score of 13-6. Heading into the second quarter, Wahoo was still trailing by seven, leaving the score 25-18.

When asked about how he felt heading into the second half, senior, Logan Moeller said, “I knew that we would have to play better defense, because we knew what they were trying to do offensively.”

After a quick halftime, the Bluejays were ready to head into the third quarter. By the end of the third quarter, the Bluejays scored 15 more points, adding to the score of 38-28.

Ready to finish out the game, the Bluejays scored 15 points in the fourth quarter. The final score of the game was Pierce, 53, and Wahoo, 45.

Some impressive stats for the night include senior Moeller with eight defensive rebounds and Chaden Roth with seven defensive rebounds.

The top scorers of the night were Ben Brahmer with 13, Moeller with 12 points, and Dawson Watts with 12.

Head coach Mike Emory stated, “I am very proud of all of the boys, they worked extremely hard to get to this point and took advantage of the opportunity that was in front of them.”

The Bluejays next game will take place in Lincoln, Wednesday, March 10.
