Pierce High to Present Puffs

PHS’s all-school play cast, crew, and directors will present this year’s production, Puffs: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic, on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Pierce Auditorium.

The play, written by Matt Cox, follows Wayne Hopkins, a young boy wizard, as he navigates his seven years of magical education at “a certain Wizard School” famously attended by another boy wizard who “conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs…who just happened to be there, too.” Puffs provides a fresh perspective on a familiar magical tale as Wayne and his friends try to make it through magic school and discover what a hero can be.

Fifty-two Pierce students in grades 7-12 make up this year’s cast and crew. Narrated by senior Shawn Zellmer, the play also features in its lead roles: Zachary Price as Wayne Hopkins, Noah Jones as Oliver Rivers, and Chloey Cederburg as Megan Jones. The Puffs are played by Nick Erickson, Emma Risinger, Ren Gleason, Zaylah Pfanstiel, Amber Shefl, Aubrey Hanson, and Brock Bolling. Ashley Wacker stars as Mr. Voldy alongside the character’s evil follower Xavia Jones, played by Alexus Sindelar.

The Headmaster of this “certain Wizard School” is played by Elijah Jones, who is joined by several other magic teachers portrayed by Trevor Voecks, Ashley Wacker, Alexus Sindelar, Megan Druyor, Chelsey Ottis, Elizabeth Furstenau, Nevaeh Koeppe, and Nick Erickson. The school’s other students are played by Logan Gubbels (Seamus), Kelly McKeown (Goyle), Hadleigh Collison (Hermeoone), Lauren Delka (Blondo Malfoy), Emma Risinger (Ginny), Chris Efta (Clumsy Longbottom), Katelyn Gubbels (Harry), Garett Riedel (Colin), Dalton Svoboda (Zach Smith, Mr. Bagman), Jamee Burhoop, Tiffany Chaney, Jayna Prochaska, Jamie Sackville, Makayla Shefl, Angeline Skrdla (also as the Dragon), Sara Thomsen, and Alexis Wortman. Makayla Shefl, Zaylah Pfanstiel, Sarah Thomsen, and Lauren Ueding also star as the founders of the Wizard School, haunted by ghosts Fat Friar (Dalton Svoboda), Myrtle (Amber Shefl), and Mr. Nick (Nick Erickson).

The stellar supporting cast also portrays the play’s many other roles, including a chorus of Soul-Sucking Security Guards and a band of evil wizards and followers of Mr. Voldy known as the Death Buddies.

The crew includes seniors Morgan Blecher, Samantha Fischer, Kyla Knox, Kaden Johnson, Graison Pfeiffer, Larissa Meier, Christian Miller, Taylor Miller, and Ayden Thelen; junior Keli Shermer; freshmen Amelia Ahlers, Veronica Orona, Izzabelle Price, Alexis Sporleder, and Kaylee Steffen; and eighth-grader Addison Willer.

This year’s play is directed by Melissa Legate, Kate and Brock Bretschneider, and student director Chloey Cederburg.

Admission at the door will be $5 for adults and $3 for students K-12.
