Livestock Judging

by Isabelle Skrdla

The Pierce FFA Chapter sent 15 members to Northeast Community College in Norfolk to compete in district livestock judging on Thursday, January 27.

The top placer in the junior team was Korvin Fritz, in 3rd place, and in the senior division, Cameron Armitage was the top placer finishing in 12th place.

The Pierce students were split up into junior and senior divisions, in consideration of their grade level. The junior team consisted of Angeline Skrdla, Morgan Graae, Trever Montgomery, K. Fritz, Haylee Ferguson, Wyatt Stemick and Weston Stemick.

The senior team was made up of Zaylah Pfanstiel, Colbey Jensen, Colton Fritz, Armitage, Alexander Meier, and Ella Gaes.

Jensen states, “Overall I think the team participated well considering what we had to work with. There were about 630 competitors, which was a little overwhelming, but I think we fared really well overall. I can’t wait to be better than ever next year.”

Each member had to take a livestock test and judge six classes of livestock. In upcoming events, the FFA members will compete in Cattlemen's Classic on February 12 and 15, and Career Development Events (CDEs) are on March 2.
