Pierce Girls Dominate at GINW
The Pierce Girls Wrestling team dominated at the Grand Island Northwest tournament held Saturday, January 15, scoring 56 team points and taking away first place honors.
Coming away with first place medals individually were senior Callie Arnold (120), sophomore Angeline Skrdla (126), and sophomore Maggie Painter (132).
At 114, Hayle DeBoer lost by fall to Ava McNeal of Lewis Central, Maya Humlicek of Lewis Central and Kylee Plowman of Conestoga.
Arnold, who wrestled at 120, added nine team points by pinning Kailey Waite of Adams Central in :20 and later pinning Angeline Flores of Conestoga.
Also scoring nine team points and placing first was A. Skrdla (126) who pinned Cadence Svoboda of Adams Central in :31 and later pinned Julianna Zubrod of Adams Central.
Scoring 18 team points was Painter at 132. She started the day pinning Sarah Klein of Centura, then won by a 6-3 decision over Morgan Hensch of Conestoga. In her final round, she pinned Grace Wioskowski of Adams Central.
Isabelle Skrdla (138) finished in second place. She lost by fall to Emma Harb in both rounds.
Wrestling at 145, Haylee Miller fell to Espie Almazan of Lewis Central and Kira Ahlers of Adams Central.
Receiving a second place medal and scoring 16 team points was Katelyn Gubbels, who wrestled at 152. She pinned Thea Wahl of Adams Central in her semifinal round, and then pinned Chloe Mader of GINW in :19 in her final match.
Candace Clausen, also at 152, lost by fall to Wahl of Adams Central and Dana Swendensky of Lewis Central.
At 165, Mariah Eckert finished third, losing in a 3-1 decision to Megan Boyd of GINW and falling to Isabella Rivera of GINW.
The wrestling team will be at Boone Central on Saturday, January 29.
Pierce Goes 4-1 at Northwest Duals

The Pierce wrestlers traveled to compete in the Northwest Dual Tournament in Grand Island on Saturday, January 15 where they dualed against multiple teams including York, Lewis Central Iowa, Grand Island Northwest, Central City, and Hastings.
Kicking off against York, Pierce won overall 69-12. Peyton Kruntorad (138) had a forfeit. At 145, Jayden Coulter pinned Brooks Loosvelt. Blake Bolling and Michael Kruntorad also had forfeits. Up at 170, Matthew Christensen had a quick pin over Seth Erickson. Pierce was open at 182. At 195 and 220, Zavien Buol and Nicholas Erikson both had forfeits. Up at 285 Dawson Raabe pinned Damien Tesarek. At 106, Zakary Abler won by fall to Brody Epp. Next at 113 Elijah Streff won a close match to Isaac Ciro. Pierce was open at 120. At 126, Isaiah Adams won by fall over Kohen Dye. Finishing off the dual against York was Brock Bolling with a pin over Emmett Hoffman.
Senior Br. Bolling stated, “To be a good dual team you need everyone to be ready and we did a great job of everyone being prepared for their matches.”
Pierce’s next dual was against Lewis Central, Iowa, and the Bluejays won with a score of 44-33. Coulter and Bl. Bolling at 145 and 152 respectively both had forfeits. Weighing in at 160, M. Kruntorad got a pin over Chance Chappell. At 170, Christensen pinned Andrew Schultz. Pierce was open at 182 and 195. Wrestling weight 220 was Erickson who won a tight match over Hunter Waldstei. At 285, Raabe lost by decision to Sam Barrientos. Abler (106) lost by fall to Carter Schorsch. At 113 was Corbin Pfeil, where he lost by fall to Jaxon Brewer. In at 120, Streff also lost by fall to Derrik Gregory. Getting back on track at 126 and 132 Adams and Chase Rasmussen, both had forfeits. Bumping up to 138, Br. Bolling won by tech-fall over Jackson Edwards.
The third dual of the day for the Bluejays was against Grand Island Northwest, and Pierce won with a score of 46-34. Starting at 152 Bl. Bolling won by fall over Zach Cooley. Zachary Meier (160) lost to Bo Bushhousen by major. At 170 M. Kruntorad won by medical forfeit over Cooper Ewoldt. Next up at 182 Christensen won by a quick fall of :39 over Nolan Moorman. Next up at 195 Buol fell to Joseph Stein. Up at 220 Erickson fell to Victor Isele. To get back on track at 285 Raabe won by fall over Owen Payne. At 106 Pfeil fell to Kaleb Keiper. Next at 113, Abler had a forfeit. Up at 120 Streff fell to Gavin Ruff. At 126 Adams won by major over Roland Murillo. Br. Bolling (132) pinned Konner Fritzel. Up to 138 P. Kruntorad fell to Max Yendra. Finally at 145, Coulter had a quick pin over Caleb Vokes.
The fourth dual of the day for the Bluejays was a win by Pierce, 45-25 over Central City. Starting off at 160 Meier fell to Bryce Kunz. Next at 170, Kruntorad got a 12-11 close win over Bryce Sutton. Up at 182 Christensen won by decision over Jaramie Elton. Central City was open at 195 so Buol won by forfeit. Up at 220 Erickson got a pin over Riley Lavene. At 285 Raabe won by forfeit. Abler (106) won over Dalton Lovejoy. At 113 Dylan Lovejoy won by fall over Streff. Pierce was open at 120. Next at 126 Adams lost to Cole Kunz by major. At 132 Br. Bolling lost a close match to Tristan Burbach. To finish the dual P. Kruntorad (138), Coulter (145), and Bl. Bolling (152) had forfeits.
In the final dual of the day Hastings was Pierce’s only dual loss with 48-23 being the final score. Starting at 170 Christensen won by fall over Jeret Frerichs. Pierce was open at 182. Next at 195 Buol fell to Oaklyn Smith. Next at 220 Erickson won over Blaine Hamik. Up at 285 Raabe won by fall over Jacob Lopez. Jumping back to 106 Abler lost by fall to Cameron Brumbaugh. At 113 Hunter Anderson won by fall over Streff. Pierce was open at 120. At 126, Adams lost to Braiden Kort by tech-fall. At 132 Br. Bolling won by a 10-1 major over Markus Miller. Up to 138, Elijah Johnson got the fall over P. Kruntorad. At 145 Coulter won by major of 10-1 over Blake Kile. At 152, Bl. Bolling lost by an 11-0 major to Landon Weidner. In the last match of the day M. Kruntorad (160) lost a close match 11-9 sudden victory to Jett Samuelson.
Junior Bl. Bolling reflected, “I feel as a team we did well; we still need to work on a lot of things so we can be at peak performance for February.”
The Bluejays will next take the mat on Saturday, January 22, at Plattsmouth.
Pierce Dominates Over Plainview

On Thursday, January 13, Pierce hosted a dual with Plainview, and Pierce came out on top with a score of 60-13. With 4 pins coming from the Bluejays, and no pins on the Bluejays, Pierce’s night was a success.
At 106 Plainview was open, and Pierce had Zachary Abler, who was able to add six team points.
Corbin Pfeil, at 113, lost by an 11-0 major decision to Plainview’s Landon Hansen.
Eli Streff won at 120 because Plainview was open.
At 126, senior Isaiah Adams lost to Jordan Mosel 8-2.
Brock Bolling fought at 132 to beat Scout Ashburn 4-3.
Kyler Mosel beat Peyton Kruntorad (138) with a fall.
At 145, Jayden Coulter eliminated, by a 4-1 decision, Tanner Frahm.
Blake Bolling won against John Lejia with a fall at 152.
Zach Meier pinned Wyatt Doerr at 160.
At 170, Michael Kruntorad needed :21 to pin Plainview’s Zach Cahill.
Matthew Christensen at 182 had a nice day with Plainview being open.
Plainview was open at 195 so Zavien Boul scored a win.
At 220 Nicholas Erickson pinned Grayson Peterson.
Plainview was open at 285 so Dawson Raabe ran home with a victory.
Br. Bolling said, “I’m very proud of the entire team and how we performed; [I’m] really looking forward to the dual meet coming up Saturday.”
On Thursday, January 20, Pierce hosts a triangular with Norfolk Catholic and Battle Creek.
