Robotics Team Competes in Competition

by Raegan Theisen

Last Saturday, November 15, the Pierce robotics team traveled to Mitchell, South Dakota, for their first robotics competition of the season against 22 other teams. Pierce took one team made up of senior Nicholas Lienemann, juniors Matthew Steffen and Dalton Svoboda, and sophomore Tate Reinke.

Pierce placed first in the qualifying round then lost in the partner finals to the Robo Chickens and Robo Kodas.

Svoboda commented on the competition saying, “I’m so proud of how our team performed at the Mitchell Robotics Competition on Saturday. It was so much fun to see the competition and to compete. We were fortunate to have some pretty good pairings for the qualification matches. We ended up being 1st overall, which we have never done before. It was fun to see some familiar faces too. Shout out to the other schools that made it a fun experience for us. All [were] nice people and very fun to joke around with. We allied with Harrisburg for the elimination matches (playoffs) and made it all the way to the championship where we took on the Robo Kodas. Unfortunately, life happened, and we were unable to bounce back. We lost in the championship. Love to all that we competed with and against. Can’t wait until the next competition.”

“We did really well, and I’m proud of what our team accomplished,” said Steffens.

The robotics teams will be back in competition on Saturday, December 4, in Elkhorn.
