Cattlemen’s Classic
Last Wednesday, the 17th of February, members of the Pierce FFA Chapter headed down to Kearney, Nebraska for the Cattlemen’s Classic. This event has cattle producers come from all over the Midwest to compete in a show cattle competition. Usually, our FFA members participate in a livestock judging competition held here. Unfortunately, due to COVID, this portion of Cattlemen’s Classic was canceled. Instead, they held a public speaking event where competitors had around 2 hours to interview show cattle businesses and write a speech over how COVID had affected their business. It was a great learning experience for all the members of FFA. The Pierce FFA Chapter took a team of Mark Ventiecher, Abby Streff, Larissa Meier, and Brielle Unseld to compete in this event. They placed first out of around 8 teams, and they received a $1000 scholarship as a 1st place prize! Abby Streff, the President of the FFA Chapter says, “The Cattlemen’s Classic was lots of fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed talking to all the producers and seeing agriculture at its peak.”
