Wrestling Triangular at Norfolk Catholic

The Pierce High School wrestlers traveled to Norfolk Catholic High School for a triangular match against Battle Creek and Norfolk Catholic on Thursday, January 21. The Warbirds ended the night as the top scorers at the Norfolk Catholic triangular. 

In the first duals of the night, Pierce edged out Battle Creek 47-30, and later they beat Norfolk Catholic 48-25.

Individually, at 106, Zakary Abler lost by fall to Battle Creek’s Garrett Finke. Abler also lost by fall to Norfolk Catholic’s Dominic Liess. 

Moving on to 120, Isaiah Adams took an automatic win from Norfolk Catholic due to forfeit. Adams also took another win over Jaxson Hassler of Battle Creek by decision 7-4. 

At 126, Brock Bolling also received a win from forfeit over Battle Creek and defeated the Knight’s Noah Morland by fall. 

Blake Bolling (132) pinned Brayton Croghan of Battle Creek and received a win by forfeit from Norfolk Catholic. 

At 138, Jayden Coulter pinned Norfolk Catholic’s Kanyon Talton. Coulter also defeated Hunter Kreikemeier of Battle Creek by fall. Wrestling at 145, Zach Meier lost by a 9-0 major decision to Allan Olander of Battle Creek. Pierce was open at 145 in the dual with Norfolk Catholic.

Moving on, Ashton Schweitzer wrestling at 152 took two wins; one over Kaleb Kummer of Battle Creek by a 12-2 major decision and Noah Wattier of Norfolk Catholic by fall. Michael Kruntorad (160) took a win over Battle Creek by forfeit but was defeated by Norfolk Catholic’s Francisco Mendez by decision 11-7. 

At 170, Zander Schweitzer beat Battle Creek’s Kaden Warneke by a 13-2 major decision and Norfolk Catholic’s Ben Morland by fall. 

Continuing for Pierce, Colton Fritz (182) lost by fall to Kase Thompson of Battle Creek and Brandon Kollars of Norfolk Catholic. 

At 195, Ren Gleason took a win over Jeston Hassler of Battle Creek by fall. Gleason also received a win from Norfolk Catholic by forfeit. 

At 220 pounds, Nick Erickson defeated Battle Creek’s Jacob Ottis by fall and also received a win by forfeit from Norfolk Catholic. 

Lastly, Travis Jensen (285) was defeated by Dahlas Zlomke of Battle Creek by fall and Isaac Wilcox of Norfolk Catholic by fall. 

Varsity wrestling coach, Tyler Legate commented, “I thought the guys wrestled tough. We still have a lot to work on. We look forward to peaking at the end of the year.” 

The Warbirds will take the mats again Thursday, January 28, at Pierce for the Mid-State conference tournament.
