FCCLA Holds District Leader Conference

by Kallie Edins

On Wednesday, October 21, the FCCLA held their District Leadership Conference. The conference is usually held at Northeast Community College in Norfolk or at Wayne State College, but due to COVID-19 restrictions the conference was held over zoom.

Ashley Rae Klinger, the main speaker, talked about her and her husband's recent journey with infertility, adoption, and foster care. Klinger co-founded with her husband, the BE A FOSTER Movement in 2019 in an effort to create conversation and understanding around the undeniable impacts of foster care and the increasing need for loving foster families. The FCCLA members spent their morning in the conference further learning about Klinger’s journey and also in their breakout sessions of choice.

The zoom conference also had a variety of breakout sessions where students could go to learn about different topics like managing stress, online dangers, and career pathways.

FCCLA District 8 representative Ella Gaes says, “Overall I thought it was a fun experience and a nice break from school. The difference from this year to last year's conference was the physical aspect and not Pierce FCCLA sponsor, Angie Brodersen notes, “It’s a bummer we couldn’t have attended in person, but I’m glad we keep finding ways to attend whether in person or online.”

FCCLA will be having a meeting on November 9 for the FCCLA members to attend and talk about upcoming events.
