Reopening of Schools Plan for PPS
July 21, 2020
School will begin as scheduled on Thursday, August 13th with full attendance.
Although we are certainly in unique times, we strongly believe that students need to attend school. We also believe the safety of our students and staff is a top priority.
With the intention to create a learning environment that is as safe as possible, we have worked closely with our public health partners and state associations to develop our reopening of schools plan. Please see the plan link located at the end of this article.
Although as of writing this letter, we are operating in the green low spread level, we will be taking extra precautions such as additional sanitation of high touch areas, social distancing implemented as much as possible, scheduled hand washing, hand sanitizer in all classrooms, and no self serve salad bars or shared condiments at breakfast and lunch.
I ask for your help in monitoring your students’ health at home before school by taking temperatures and checking on their well being. If your student is not feeling well or has a temperature greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, please have them stay home. I cannot express enough the importance for your student to stay home if feeling ill or has a fever.
Currently, we are not requiring face coverings, but we are highly encouraging them for both students and staff. Educational Service Unit 8 is in the process of obtaining face coverings for all of its member schools. If your student would like a face covering, but is unable to obtain one, a limited supply will be available.
Our school district will work closely with public health officials to determine the spread level. If there is a need to change from the green low spread level, we will communicate the change immediately.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. We appreciate your understanding of this very unique and difficult situation. Please be assured that any and all decisions are being made for the safety of our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Kendall Steffensen
