Speech Triumphs at Wausa-Osmond

The Pierce High Speech team was victorious after competing at the annual Wausa-Osmond Speech Invitational on Saturday, February 15.

Pierce placed first in the team sweepstakes category over several other teams. Coach Alisha White commented on the meet by saying, “I’m really proud of how well the kids performed, at this point in the season; I think we are in a very good place especially with conference and districts fast approaching.”

Individually, the Pierce team performed well in all events. On the varsity team, Caydan Retzlaff and Halle Ross placed fourth in duet acting. Emilia Goetsch placed fourth in entertainment speaking, Zachary Price placed fifth, and Tanner Kuper placed sixth. Mark Venteicher placed first in extemporaneous speaking. Shelby White placed fourth in informative speaking, Larissa Meier placed sixth. Goetsch, Venteicher, Kuper placed third in oral interpretation of drama. Maiya Baumann placed second in humorous prose. Price placed fifth in poetry. Ross placed second in serious prose. White placed second in persuasive speaking, Hailey Abler placed fourth, and Kuper placed sixth.

Senior Retzlaff commented on the performance of the team, “I think we did very well as a team and as individuals, we had people make finals in almost every event, that in itself is an accomplishment. I think everyone on the team should be proud of their performances.”

On the junior varsity team, Brielle Unseld placed second in JV informative speaking, Kaila Spieker placed third, and Kallie Edins placed sixth. Unseld, Dalton Svoboda, Spieker, Nik Harvey, and Zaylah Pfanstiel placed sixth in JV oral interpretation of drama. Keli Shermer placed fourth in JV poetry, Pfanstiel placed sixth. Michaela McWilliams placed first in JV persuasive speaking.

The Pierce High Speech Team will be back in action at the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Speech Invitational next Saturday, February 22.
