8th Grade Career Day
by Michaela McWilliams
The eighth-grade class took the day off of their regular classroom routine and headed to the Northeast Community College campus for their annual career day on February 5.
The eighth-graders took part in three different classes throughout the day to learn what college life is really like. They were able to visit many places around Northeast’s campus and also learned about personal finances. Different speakers talked about the tuition cost of Northeast and the benefits of attending college there. Other speakers discussed the different college degrees needed for certain occupations and explained the career paths Northeast can lead to.
Eighth-grader Kenna Sedlacek says, “The career day helped me decide my career plans for the future.”
Counselor Danielle Goetsch states, “There are several advantages of going to the eighth-grade career day. The eighth-graders get to tour the Northeast campus which gives them a sense of what programs are offered at Northeast and also gives them a sense of the actual campus itself.” She also states, “The career day is beneficial because it gives them a sense of not only their interests but also their abilities as well as what they value. The abilities, interests, and values are then put together to give them a sense of careers that would fit what they could do.”
This opportunity will lead the eighth-graders to further develop their plans for the future.
